Certaldo is set in a territory rich in natural paths and historical remains.

It is 40 km from Florence and Siena far away. The new part of the village where shops and public services are located is extending between the Elsa river and the Agliena at the foot of the mountain where the ancient hamlet of Certaldo Alto lies.

The village was feud of the Alberti Counts and then Florence Vicariate. It is still preserving its medieval features such as red cotto floors. Sightworth are the Palazzo Pretorio, the Church of Saint Jacopo and Filippo with frescoes and ceramics dating back to the fifteenth century and the house Of Giovanni Boccaccio, the famous author of “Decameron”. In the medieval hamlet many cultural and artistic events take place among which Mercantia, the international festival devoted to the theatre in the streets.

Certaldo is also seat of natural programs such “Dolce Campagna, Antiche Mura”. Craftsman shops and typical restaurants such as “Gambasinus” in Gambassi Terme
