The heritage

During the first half of the sixteenth century, the Nobile family, who at that time were the Dukes of Lucca, decided to build their country home, Matraia was an ideal choice, due to its temperate climate and spectacular views over the city of Lucca and the "lucchesi" hills.
Over the course of the next five hundred years a small succession of owners have contributed to the conservation of the property in a way that has allowed it to now be beautifully restored , maintaining its character as a stately country house and estate, whilst transforming it into typical tuscan country homes.

The strategic position of the estate gives quick and easy access to a great number of services and attractions: Pisa and Florence airports in less than one hour, the city of Lucca in 15 minutes, the beaches of Versilia in 35 minutes, the centre of Florence in one hour, the cities of Rome and Milan in three hours.

the restoration

During the lifetime of the Villa, the architectural decorations and frescoes have suffered a great deal, including having been completely covered by whitewash at the beginning of the twentieth century. A careful programme of restoration has brought the Grand Salon back to its former glory.

The same care and attention has been taken in both the wine cellars and the buildings which make up the Borgo, which have also undergone structural renovation, in order to maintain their local character.
Matraia stone was used throughout the estate.

The estate

Villa Nobile and its Borgo enjoy grounds worthy of such a prestigious estate in which can be found an outdoor swimming pool on a natural terrace enjoying day long sunshine.

The extensive park has many mature trees including an imposing cedar tree at the front of the villa, enclosing the estate in a totally natural environment.
Completing the picture is an historic "Belvedere" over "la vallata di Lucca", and a clay tennis court both for the use of residents.

The estate has a security CCV system active 24 hours a day and night porter service.
Each residence includes one secure car parking space with direct access to the park.

Villa Nobile often hosts selected and particular events such as art exhibitions, cultural meetings, music concerts and private functions.

Since its opening in August 2006 has been managed by the developers, in collaboration with an independent administrator.

Management will be active all year round without exception to ensure that the highest standards are maintained. Services available will include management  of the properties on behalf on the owners for the purposes of letting, cleaning, furnishing and general maintenance.

Guests will be able to arrange through reception a large number of extra services such as airport transfers, car and drive services, horse riding, bicycle ride, micro light and hot air balloon flights, trekking, ski trips to Abetone, day trips or cruises in sailing or motor boats to the tuscan islands, hire of classic and sports car, thermal treatments at special rates at a nearby health spa, home services of masseurs and personal trainers, home catering, baby sitting and housekeeping.

Since December 2006, Villa Nobile started a limited production of “extra vergine” olive oil,  reserved to owners.

For hundreds of years the cellars of Villa Nobile were filled with barrels of wine and tanks for storing olive oil, which at the time were important wealth reserves of the Nobile family.

Today, after a careful rebuilding programme and using modern restoration techniques, they now house a heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi, sauna, fitness room and relaxation areas.

Villa Nobile Spa is open all year round to residents of both the Villa and the Borgo and is controlled by a state of the art electronic water heating and dehumidifying system.
