Rocca D’Evandro lies at the foot of Camino mount. Its ancient castle dominates the vast Garigliano valley. The fortress dates back to the x century and overlooks Ausoni, Cairo mounts and Mainarde thus creating an extremely interesting area. The origins of the village are very ancient and uncertain as well as those of its name. Long before the Middle Age, this village was known as “Rocca di Bandra” or “Rocca di Vandra”. A document dating 11 July 961 states that Capua and Benevento princes gave the village to San Salvatore monastery. In 1117 and 1343 the village was devastated by strong earthquakes. The Rocca was then completely rebuilt.
